Sorry, but between Bruce Springsteen concerts (awesome, even if he didn't play Jungleland) and fantasy baseball drafts (nowhere to go but up after last year's Devil Rays-esque season) I didn't spend a lot of time in front of the computer this weekend.
But even though some of these stories are a day or so old, though it worth passing along some good primers on two other UW opponents who are kicking off spring drills this week --- Oregon and Oregon State.
The Ducks will be the first opponent for UW this year, on Aug. 30, and they begin spring practice Tuesday.
According to this story in the Eugene Register-Guard, the Ducks will have a heated competition to replace Dennis Dixon at quarterback. Nathan Costa, the presumptive heir apparent and the one who most resembles Dixon in style, is out for the spring while rehabbing a knee injury. So that has sophomore Justin Roper, who threw four TDs in the Sun Bowl, atop the depth chart this spring.
Oregon has six QBs on the roster this spring, including BYU transfer Cade Cooper, leading coach Mike Bellotti to say that the QB position "is going to be in great hands for the future.'' UW has to hope that future begins after Aug. 30.
Oregon State, meanwhile, begins spring practice Monday looking to replace eight starters, as the Oregonian reports here. "Big-time holes to fill,'' is the way coach Mike Riley puts it in the story.
The Corvallis Gazette-Times has this preview of OSU's spring pointing out that this is the first time every player on the roster has been recruited by Riley.
