UW coach Tyrone Willingham talked with reporters today about his latest coaching hire, Brian White, who is likely to be the tight ends/special teams coach.
In the course of his comments, Willingham said that a date for the Spring Game has not yet been set because of some plans for events that would tie into the game that have not yet been finalized.
Apparently, the school is working on a weekend full of activities in conjunction with the Spring Game, that would include events on Friday night and Saturday. Plans should be finalized soon but until then, dates for spring practice are still not set.
As for White, Willingham said there was still a chance he could end up as the running backs coach but said it is most likely he will be the tight ends/special teams coach.
Willingham said he thinks White, who coached tight ends last year at Syracuse as well as serving as offensive coordinator, has "a personality and demeanor'' that will "fit in very well'' with the tight end corps and will "get them to be productive.''
Willingham said he has been aware of White since his days at Wisconsin and that he has "respected the work he's done, the people he's been with and the person he is.''
Willingham also said that no position changes, if there are to be any, have been set as of yet. There has been speculation about a few but Willingham said the coaches will now begin to explore those kinds of options now that recruiting season is over.
"We'll make those changes later, if there are any,'' he said.
