A look at past ratings

Posted by Bob Condotta

UW's 2008 recruiting class could be its highest-ranked since 2001, when it signed a group ranked in the top 10.

Here's a look at UW's recruiting classes since then.

2002
Number of in-state signees --- 8
Rivals.com rankings --- 19th nationally, fourth in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 23rd nationally, third in Pac-10
Comment --- Most successful player might have been Nate Robinson, who switched to basketball after one season. No player ever earned All-Pac-10 First-Team honors

2003:
Number of in-state signees --- 10
Rivals.com rankings --- 23rd nationally, fourth in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 18th nationally, second in Pac-10
Comment --- The last of Rick Neuheisel's classes, only one player attained All-Pac-10 first-team honors so far, safety C.J. Wallace in 2006 (center Juan Garica, back for a sixth year in 2008, is last active member of this class).

2004:
Number of in-state signees --- 11
Rivals.com rankings --- 19th nationally, third in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 22nd nationally, fourth in Pac-10
Comment --- Keith Gilbertson's lone full class didn's live up to its rankings due in part to decision of QB Matt Tuiasosopo to play baseball, and ineligibility of DB Keauntea Bankhead.

2005:
Number of in-state signees --- 6
Rivals.com rankings --- 66th nationally, 10th in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 55th nationally, 10th in Pac-10
Comment --- Tyrone Willingham signed just 13 players after taking over less than two months before signing date. Top recruit, RB J.R. Hasty, hasn't done much to date.

2006:
Number of in-state signees --- 5
Rivals.com rankings --- 35th nationally, sixth in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 35th nationally, sixth in Pac-10
Comment --- Willingham's first full class included seven JC transfers and some QB named Locker.

2007:
Number of in-state signees --- 5
Rivals.com rankings --- 36h nationally, fourth in Pac-10.
Scout.com rankings --- 29th nationally, fourth in Pac-10
Comment --- What was regarded as a weak year for in-state talent didn's help UW's recruiting efforts.

UW should have 12 in-state signees this year.
