Walker staying at UCLA
Posted by Bob Condotta
Official word has just come down from UCLA that defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker is staying at UCLA.
New UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel is holding a teleconference in just a few minutes to make the official announcement.
This is obviously a big hit for UW as the Huskies made a very serious effort to get Walker to replace Kent Baer. Another candidate, Ron English, was hired at Louisville yesterday, so it's uncertain where the Huskies go now. One option is promoting LB coach Chris Tormey, who was UW's defensive coordinator in 1994.
It's thought that the turning point for Walker staying at UCLA came when Neuheisel agreed to allow Walker to keep his current defensive staff at UCLA intact. UCLA's official release announces that defensive line coach Todd Howard and linebackers coach Chuck Bullough are staying at UCLA. They were the two defensive assistants who came to UCLA with Walker and were rumored to be coming to UW if Walker had moved north.
I'll have more later.

I would offer the Oregon State D Coordinator whatever we were offering Walker.

But, Kirk Herbstreet said he was coming to UW!
this does kinda suck, but like rightwingrick said, time to move to Plan B and find someone else.

No surprise with Walker staying put. Question is...What does UW/Ty/Emmert do now?

what are the other options
tormey
who is the d cord at
west virgina
ark
would ken norton jr leave USC - i mean he knows he will never get a head coaching job at usc because pete will never leave the dynasty he has in L.A.
come on people we need some names to work with here
GOOD NEWS IS STILL NO MATTER WHO THE DAWGS GET THE DEFENSE WILL STILL BE BETTER THEN WHEN BAER WAS HERE
what does this mean for ej woods and the running backs coach babers

I bet if they never hired any DC at all the Huskies defense would be just about as good next year as they were in 2007.

is there any other d cord out there due to the coaching changes this offseason
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/story/10491600
was karl dorrel a offensive or defensive coach
and same question for the rest of the coaches on the out list from the website
i know the dawgs have thought of other canidates but who?
Posted by J-Dawg
8:03 PM, Jan 02, 2008
I believe Dorrel was the D Coordinator under Neuheisal before he got the head job at UCLA.

Hey Bob who are your top 3 guesses of who the DC will be besides Tormey and that goes for everyone else
are there any coaches that leave thier current job to be a PAC 10 DC
for DC's this is a top 20 job
sec teams, pac 10 teams, and some other elite schools osu, michigan, okla, texas
some DC out there is going to get lucky and land this job

O.K. I will take the job, but I better not get fired for betting on the NCAA Volleyball Championships!

i love Coach Tormey but he is not the man for this job. Our linebacker play was really awful this year, and he was linebackers coach. He was fantastic as recruiting coordinator---really fantastic---and should keep that job, but we need somebody else running the Dawg defense.

Norton from USC...not a chance, why would he consider a move like that with no upside? The DC from Oregon St would be great, but I doubt that would happen...wouldn't make sense for him. This should be interesting. If Ty doesn't get someone with cred then this will really hurt.

tormey
dorrell
norton jr.
mora - i hate to say this but money talks
other options?
talk about bad blood between dawgs and bruins i hope locker destroys them

yes, dorrell was the DC prior to being HC. I doubt he would be a DC in the Pac. I see him taking time off this year.

word on the street is there are other candidates... perhaps an NFL guy. We made a run at him... but don't think we weren't working some other candidates.

Mora isn't coming to be a DC. Aint gonna happen when hes in line for Holmgren's job. THATS his dream job.
Posted by sammamish dawg
8:19 PM, Jan 02, 2008
you won't see Mora anytime soon...at least not as DC. I don't really know what options are out there, but I'm sure Ty is sweating more. The lame duck coach is going to need an ambulance soon if he doesn't get someone.

was there anyone on the staffs at
baltimore ravens
atlanta falcons
miami dolphins
seattle seahawks
or any of the WAC schools?
that could be a PAC 10 DC under TY

Tormey would be a terrible choice. We need a fresh start, a complete overhaul of the schemes.
How about Mike Singletary? He is currently the linebacker coach at San Diego. You know he is going to bring toughness to the table.

hiring from within would not be good. how do you tell someone from within that he's being offered the job because they can't find anyone else?
Posted by Flydawg
8:37 PM, Jan 02, 2008
Singletary would be great, but there has been talk for the last 2 years about him being a head coach in the NFL, so I doubt he'd com here as a DC. That would be taking a step backwards if his goal is a head caoch in the NFL.
Posted by sammamish dawg
8:46 PM, Jan 02, 2008
can't see Singletary in college...he seems like an NFL guy. Man, just saw WVU score again! I just hope Ty isn't interviewing the DC at Oklahoma. I like the idea of getting someone from the NFL, but probably won't happen.
Does anyone have something substantial in terms of other candidates?

let's get the interim head coach at WVU

Here's an idea - fire your head coach - then you'll definitely get a new coordinator.

Mora's not coming to the U. People should abandon that idea. If and when willingham gets fired he'll have another job. On that note, Willingham has already been back for another year, so you can't possibly think he's gonna leave. Norton wouldn't leave Southern California, the idea of Dorrell is laughable. Most of West Virginias staff is going to Michigan with Rodriguez. Tonight is their last game. We hoped too long for DW and now the other good DC's are gone. Its been quiet on the Orgeron front but I doubt he's interested. As much as it pains me, Tormey probably has the best chance. He's a great recruiter, he's been around the U for a long time, and maybe he gives them the shot in the arm they need. Our linebacker play wasn't horrible. EJ Savannah was the best thing the defense had, which isn't saying much, but if you put a good d line in front of him, which all signs point to us having some big guys coming in and guys coming off their red shirt year, a couple of competant safties, love to see EJ Woods end up here, and I think we'll have something ! GO DAWGS !

I'm telling all you Dawgs, you should get Doba. He was always a great DC for the Cougs...didn't suck til they made him head coach.

"Mora's not coming to the U. People should abandon that idea. If and when willingham gets fired he'll have another job."
You know, the whole idea that this is Mora's dream job isn't based on some assumption. The man said he'd come here under any conditions, including the theoretical scenario where he's just won the Superbowl. While I admit that's hard to believe, it does illustrate that his mere occupation of "another job" wouldn't really mean much.

Mr. Willingham,
Please call Mr. Mora, Jr., offer him the DC position and begin the healing process. He would be a great defensive coordinator, help unite the Husky world and demonstrate your ability to lead effectively.
Mr. Mora,
Please take Mr. Willingham's call and consider the Husky DC opportunity. Working together you and Mr. Willingham have the power to accomplish great things.
