Gameday to Eugene, instead?
Posted by Bob Condotta
There have been some rumblings out there that ESPN GameDay might finally make it to Washington for next week's game with USC.
But last week's loss might have dulled the edge on those hopes.
According to Rob Moseley at the Eugene Register-Guard, the Ducks are anticipating that GameDay is going to Eugene for next week's game with Cal.

I guess I'm probably the only one in Husky Nation who could care less where GameDay goes.
.
On the other hand if it's here for a packed house on a beautiful fall day for a Husky win, guess it couldn't hurt recruiting.

We won't get them to come. Unfortunately, the Oregon-Cal match-up will be more exciting to most everyone...

Unfortunately, it's not exciting for people outside of the west coast. And it's not like San Francisco is a booming football metropolis.

Bob,
What happened to Osaar Rashaan? I noticed he is still on the Bruin roster and he is my listed 3rd stringer coming into the season, so I'm surprised that the two freshmen are ahead of him on the depth chart?
About gameday, let's hope Stanford or Arizona can pull off a shocker and the Dawgs dominate otherwise we could be in trouble. It's always been a dream of mine to have gameday here after going twice. Once for the season opener at Michigan in 2002 and for the season opener at Ohio State in 2003. We were there two hours early each time and we were in the front row. It was awesome!

Chris --- Rashaan was moved to receiver and is listed as the No. 4 split end this week.

I was there for Ohio State in 2003 also and it was an awesome experience. I really think it's great for the city and it gets everyone down to Husky Stadium bright and early.

I'm all for having Gameday come...But there is a part of me that would prefer they come when we're a touch more polished and really have a reasonable shot to win. I'm a complete Husky homer, but I'm just not sure we really have a shot against 'SC unless we can really fix the mistakes and special teams gaffs. A team like 'SC, like Ohio State did, really takes you to task when you make errors.

If the Huskies impress against UCLA, and the Ducks take a tumble against Stanford (both my predictions), then Gameday will come. Trouble is, they'll spend all their time talking about east coast football. Syracuse, Rutgers, Boston College. Who gives a crap about east coast football? One of the heavily-drugged east coast hacks on ESPN actually thought the Big East was the third best conference. I have a song for ESPN and their east coast hacks:
Wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin',
plannin' and dreamin' . . .

You honestly don't need to play well the day of Gameday coming to your school. The game is gonna be broadcast on ESPN regardless. The benefits of having Gameday is having your fans, your team colors, your city and everything that comes with Husky football splattered across TV screens on ESPN through out the morning. Huge for recruiting and school recognition. Cross your fingers for Gameday to come. Go Dawgs!!

Next week would be a great week for them to come to UW with school starting, and all the students back in the U-District. I'd love to see a sea of purple #10 jerseys in the background going crazy.
But Gameday in Eugene??.....Herbrstreit is likely to get firebombed by a Eugene anarchist or something. WEIRD place to say the least. ESPN would definitely be creeped out.

i also have the "je ne give a crap pas" attitude about where GameDay goes.
it's a show that starts at 7am PDT...how many seattle fans are going to show up at 7am to yell and scream? none.
how many oregon fans will? lots more than here.
reality is this show should just stay in the southeast to proliferate the TV perception that college football is crazy fun.

Great, as opposed to seeing mighty washington play we will instead be treated to the "Worst uniforms in NCAAF history game" Nothing against the bears though, I like them.

I don't think it matters too much whether or not the Game Day crew comes to town or not, though I can't imagine any Husky fan would want Oregon to get it. But I think that between the two, the Huskies would get it because of their history and the buzz that Locker is getting. Not to mention that Seattle is a much bigger, better and more recognized city than Eugene.

Chris, there is talk down here that Osaar Rashaan will get playing time at WR this weekend.

Couple of things:
first....Gameday will NOT be coming to Seattle if UW beats UCLA. Even if we won 100-0, they wouldnt come. We lost our shot after losing to OSU.
Second...Gameday was indeed in Eugene a few years back when the ducks beat Michigan. So, no Eugene is not too small or unrecognizable for them to show up.
Third...Gameday is a big deal..if only because like others said, your school is plastered all over ESPN and ABC for not only that saturday, but that game is featured throughout the week on podcasts and shows on both channels.
Finally...this game is a must win if udub wants any realistic shot at a winning record and a bowl game.
Keep up the great work BOB.
Go Huskies!!!!!!

Chris Miller. Thanks for the autographed football from the All-star game in Hawaii. "Franco Harris" is very easy to read.
(Oh, you're not the quarterback from Oregon?

Flying in saturday morning for the game. Haven't been to a game in about 10 years. I'd give anything to have Gameday at Husky Stadium. Like a lot of you have said, great for school exposure and recruiting. GO DAWGS!!!

How can U of O be proclaiming that GameDay is coming? Sounds like the Oregon hype-machine (is that a Neuheiselism? If so, I apologize) is cranking up again.

If we beat decisively AND Oregon loses to Stanford (big ifs), it is hard to believe they would still go after the UO - Cal game. So I'm hoping that something of that nature happens; in particular, I'm hoping that Locker takes his accuracy up a notch and demolishes the Bruin secondary. (Another nice if). There is nothing that college football fans love so much as an exciting young quarterback, and no matter what, that would draw some attention.

Hearing that I've managed to shoe-horn in one more reason to despise UO when I thought my tank was aoready topped off. I like the comment about the uniforms, can you imagine how garrish the screen would look with those two Flamingos playing? Imagine if they both made it to the Humanitarian Bowl, it would be like watching a football game illustrated by Dr Suess. I also agree with delaying a Gameday visit until the program has become more established. The last thing we need is another schlacking like Miami put on us a few years ago in the Orange Bowl which Im pretty sure was a Gameday broadcast (Interestingly, on last nights Miami-TexTech game QB Ken Dorsey called in to the crew and mentioned his favorite Orange Bowl memory was throttling the Dawgs in that game - UGH! bad times!) The last thing we need is a national blowout as the centerpiece of a ESPN broadcast - we do not stand a chance against USC right now, they are not the same team we narrowly lost to last year, they are older, faster, stronger, and deeper. For my money the best matchup for a Gameday feature would be the Cal game- would be a lot more even of a matchup - as long as we can get our kick coverage fixed that is.

UW alum and 20 yr Seattle resident here, moved to Raleigh 2 yrs ago. I've always been a little bent out of shape about why the Game Day crew had never come to Seattle. How many times have we seen it from some lame place like Blacksburg VA ??
The fans posting about the 7am PDT start have a point, but I'm sure if the show came, they'd get enough rabid Dawgs down there to keep up appearances. The crew would point out that it was 7am on the West Coast, and game wasn't starting for 5 hours.
I believe it's a combination of East Coast bias and the fact that it's probably difficult for the equipment to turn around and come all the way out to Seattle then back East in a week.
SEC has good football and great tradition, but I have been getting a kick out of the ACC fans here in NC. They just don't seem to get that they should stick to Basketball, which admittedly they are the best teams, traditions, and atmosphere. But I just laugh at their football, even with UW being down last few years.

Hey Oly dawg, in response to this...
"But Gameday in Eugene??.....Herbrstreit is likely to get firebombed by a Eugene anarchist or something. WEIRD place to say the least. ESPN would definitely be creeped out."
Actually, here's what Herbstreit had to say about his last trip...
"I'm simply going on my memories from my last trip to Autzen in 2001 -- wow, has it been that long? I think its time for "GameDay" to return to Eugene. Six Pac-10 champions and a major stadium renovation have come and gone since our last visit. But when we were there, it rocked."

Ugh. Just what Oregon needs. If we beat UCLA, Gameday should be in Seattle. I'd rather see it at current #23 South Florida for the WVU game than watch Gameday with the Eugene scenery in the background.
