On the day after what was only UW's fourth win in three seasons, we'll look back and ahead:
First to answer a few questions.
No, nobody asked Tyrone Willingham whether he thought to go for two after UW's last TD, as several readers suggested. Frankly, I didn't think of it and I guess no one else did, either. But I think I know his answer - it was safer to get the sure one-point and eliminate any chance of SJS winning by scoring a TD and kicking two field goals, or a TD and another TD without needing to kick. I imagine he thought the odds of getting the two-pointer didn't make it worth it.
As for Jordan White-Frisbee, he didn't play but I think the reason is simply that the game plan didn't suit him once UW went almost solely to its nickel package in the second half. But I'll make sure to ask that question tomorrow.
As for the secondary, I do think it's disconcerting. But I would wait for ultimate judgment until we see how it looks with Dashon Goldson in the mix. Goldson was on the field for a play or two but obviously didn't really contribute. They obviously need him to get back as quickly as possible.
As for the new $5 game program, it's an attempt for the Huskies to raise some money while beefing up something that they've felt was lacking. They also think it might help in recruiting by letting recruits have a bigger, more professionial program to look at during the game.
On to next week, here's the Tulsa World's game story on Oklahoma's sluggish win over UAB Saturday. Much of the sentiment in all the coverage is the same as out here -- it may have been kind of ugly, but at least it was a win. Like UW, Oklahoma had turnover trouble, losing four.
Most encouraging for UW, however, are a few graphs buried midway through the story detailing the troubles the Sooners had corralling UAB quarterback Sam Hunt. Hunt is UAB's backup quarterback but came on to rush for 65 yards on 15 carries, many coming out of option plays similar to what the Huskies are sure to run Saturday.
