Reichert passed over for Appropriations seat

Posted by David Postman

Congressman Dave Reichert was just given the official word that he did not get the seat he wanted on the House Appropriations Committee, confirms his spokeswoman, Abigal Schilling. The seat went to Alabama Rep. Jo Bonner.

That was the recommendation from House Republican leaders and in a meeting that just ended, it was made official by the Republican Steering Committee, which met in the office of Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio.

Politico had the story earlier that Bonner had gotten the nod from leadership.

If the committee follows through with leadership’s recommendation, as is typical, Bonner would be something of safe selection from the field that includes an anti-earmark crusader - Arizona Rep. Jeff Flake - two potentially vulnerable lawmakers - Colorado Rep. Marilyn Musgrave and Washington Rep. Dave Reichert - and a member of the leadership - Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Reichert had pushed to be appointed in part as a way to boost his profile in a re-election year.

I know this is totally and completely off topic, but the McCain campaign keeps robocalling me. It is especially irritating because:

1 - McCain's messages are insulting to any thinking person. McCain is not Ronald Reagan and never will be, no matter how often he tells me he is.

2 - I vote Democrat. I will never, ever vote for a Republican again, not after Bush.

3 - Even if I was a Republican I would not vote for the war monger McCain.

4 - The calls interupt my work. I have to answer my work phone any time of day or night, and to be interrupted by these irritating calls is maddening.

Is there any way to get off their robocalling phone list?

Or if there is no way to get these rude, contemptible scumbags to leave me alone, do you David, or anyone else, know the local McCain office address or phone number. If their calls continue I intend to pay them a personal visit and let them know what I think of their contempt for me.

No doubt about it, this is a big disappointment for the 8th Congressional District. It isn't every day that your congressman has a chance to get onto such an important committee, but unfortunately our representation has so little influence (Reichert is ranked 419 in the House in influence) that once again the district suffers because of it.

This is what we got for not voting in a Democrat to sit in a Democratic majority Congress. Reichert, as one would have expected after the 2006 elections is just taking up space and amounting to nothing as a minority congressman.

Rubber stamp Reichert is a joke. as are most R's these days.

The 8th district does not suffer, because we do not have a congressman on the Appropriations Committee, considering that the committee is famous for issuing out dubious grants that serve provincial more than national interests. There have been, in fact, congress persons in the minority, or independents, who have been productive, or influential contrarians, the latter which we could use a lot more of, considering the selling out of the U.S. Constitution, lately.

evergreen_representative - Reichert doesn't appear to be one of them.

When are we going to see Dave's story about James Michael McHaney, former Cantwell staffer who pleads guilty to federal child pornography charges? He was fired from his job as a scheduler after his arrest last year. Why no comment from Cantwell's spokeswoman?

My guess is that it isn't a big story because he isn't an elected official, just a staffer.

Unlike Bob Ney, Larry Craig, Ted Stevens, Duke Cunningham, Mark Foley, Tom DeLay, et al.

What's this got to do with Reichert, BTW?

Nothing to do with Reichert, Everything to do with Balance. Postman usually tries to slight Riechert or any Republican by spinning things like the loss of a desired seat on a committee as a sign of weakness. Yet when Ron Sims, tries to pull a 70 Million Dollar no-bid contract deal with Yarrowbay and Martin Durkan Jr for County owned property he is silent, even though the only place to write about the scandal was in his own paper in article by Brunner and Vane.

Gregiore sites a Wind farm in Kittitas over the objections and the findings of the local County commission. The Commission that recommended the overturning of the local decision is headed by Jim Luce, an appointee of Gregiore's. He makes $70,000 a year and is quoted in his own emails as recommending the action to "Justify the existence of his Energy Facilities Siting Commission." His wife is also the head of the State Department of Licensing and they contribute thousands of dollars a year to Gregiore's Campaign fund according to the PDC. Postman? anyone?

Don't get us started on the Cantwell/Dotzauer Boondoggle that continues to this day, never a critical word, but let's make sure everyone know that Reichert really wanted that seat and he didn't get it, because thats real news...right?

Nothing says "vote for me" for Congress like an unemployed mom who has never volunteered or served her local community. Oh that's right she is a Democrat, qualifications mean nothing. By the way why doesn't she say who she is supporting for President?

Regarding comment about my earlier comment, I agree with the implication that Dave Reichert is not a contrarian who protects the Constitution; he has gone along in lockstep with the authoritarian bent of the past few congresses.

Incidentally, not that the Corporate Mainstream News Media would recognize this fact, but the 8th District election for Congress is a three-candidate race. Mark Greene, if elected, will make the hard economic decisions necessary to bring our nation back to financial stability:

Reichert - R
Mark Greene - Independent/Party of Commons
Burner - D

Just out of curiosity, evergreen_representative, how many people are actually in your party of commons, and do you have a presidential candidate?

Posted by evergreen_representative

7:43 AM, Feb 16, 2008

The Party of Commons, founded in 2006 and established from our affiliate committee that was formed in 2004, sprung from the grassroots in Washington state. Since 2004, about 3,500 voting age people, the majority of them sympathizers, have signed Committee of Commons & Political Affairs affiliated petitions for various offices. Are headquarters used to be in the 9th Congressional District; now, it's in the 8th, challenging the Reichert & Burner status quo. The P.O.C. is steadily gaining momentum towards interested citizens becoming official members. We do not have a presidential candidate as we run only run in races where we have a fair chance of winning.
