This piece reminds me of my experience in China last year. I was surprised at how clumsy Chinese officials were with the foreign press. It makes sense considering the low level of independence enjoyed by Chinese journalists.
It will be interesting to watch how the PRC deals with so many foreign journalists during the summer Olympics in Beijing. The lesson from Fallows; be careful what you ask for.
