Democracy's future

The Atlantic polled a number of foreign policy experts about the future of democracy around the world. The results can be found here.

I am a bit pessimistic about the near term prospects for democracy around the world. Governments, including ours, really like to be in control. Any thoughts? Are we about to witness a blooming of democracy? Or is democracy a shredded mess waiting to join communism in the dust pan?
