NEWS RELEASE: Fire damages home in Brier
Posted by John de Leon
-- Snohomish County Fire District 1 issued the following news release this morning on last night's house fire in Brier:
A two-alarm fire ripped through a Brier home on March 8, causing $350,000 damage and displacing a family of six.
A neighbor called 911 at 8:42 p.m. and said she could see flames in the window of the house behind her home. The back of the large two-story home in the 23700 block of 29th Ave. W. was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
"The house was already so heavily damaged it was unsafe for firefighters to enter, so they attacked the fire from the outside," said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1, which provides fire and emergency medical service in the city of Brier.
No one was home at the time at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. More than 30 firefighters from Fire District 1, Lynnwood, Edmonds, Shoreline and Northshore were dispatched to the fire. They had most of the fire knocked down after about 40 minutes.
The fire displaced a couple and their three small children and an adult relative who lived with them. They have insurance and plan to stay with family members who live nearby.
Firefighters expected to be working at the scene throughout the night. Investigators are still trying to determine what started the fire. They expect to return to scene in the morning to continue their investigation in the daylight.
