Snow causes changes to Metro bus routes, school schedules

Posted by John de Leon

The overnight snowfall is causing some disruptions for King County Metro Transit service early Monday morning, but warming temperatures are expected to melt the snow as the day progresses. Also, school districts like Seattle and Bellevue are starting later this morning because of the snow.

The snow was not widespread, and as of 5 a.m. was only causing minor problems for Metro Transit in North King County, parts of the Eastside and Queen Anne Hill. Other hilly areas in Seattle and areas south of the city are largely unaffected.

Currently, routes 3 and 4 on Queen Anne are on their adverse weather routing. In Bellevue, routes serving the Somerset Hill area - the 207, 208 and 921 - are also on snow routes. In the north and east areas of the county, other routes are operating with chains which could slow service.

If there is snow on the streets in areas you are traveling this morning, expect transit service to be affected. Do not wait for the bus in the middle of a hill; instead go to a bus stop at the top or the bottom of the hill. Also, use the stops on the more heavily traveled arterial streets, or go to a transit center or major park-and-ride to board the bus.

You can also call Metro's Customer Information Office at 206-553-3000 for the latest information.

The snowfall is also causing some school districts to start later this morning. These include Seattle (two hours late), Bellevue (one hour), Issaquah (two hours), Mercer Island (one hour) and Lake Washington (two hours). To check on the status of a school district, click here.

National Weather Service forecasters say the snow will move out of the urban area as temperatures warm today. Tuesday could bring more snow to parts of Western Washington. Forecasters say heavy snow is possible over the Olympics with up to 6 inches around Hood Canal, and 2 to 4 inches in the Chehalis Valley and toward the coast.

Yet again people fail to realize that Seattle gets a fraction of the snow that areas in the east receive. Much like how the areas in the north...  Posted on February 9, 2009 at 11:02 AM by ChrisTran206. Jump to comment
