Good deeds: Stories of assistanceComments: 9 Who's given you a boost? In the wake of Thursday's storm, have you seen someone reach out and give others the help they needed? Is there someone you need to say thank you to? We're looking for your stories of the friends, neighbors or strangers that extended that helping hand. Selected comments I have to give a big "Thank You" to the folks at the Renton McLendon's Hardware. They ran out of firewood but someone decided to take utility grade 2x4s and cut them into fireplace sized pieces and provide those to folks. The guy was standing there cutting nonstop for the 2 hours I was in the store. The bundles weren't overpriced either. Posted by S D Atherly at 01:30 PM, Dec 18, 2006 Our neighborhood lost power very early Thursday morning. Our neighbors Jason and Sandy Piper were running their generator and offered to hook us up with power to our gas furnace. They are both very generous neighbors and are always there to help people out. I would like to say thank you for being such wonderful neighbors always. Barb & Adam Posted by Barb Saldana at 01:39 PM, Dec 18, 2006 I just want to say thank you to all the parents of the kids at Springtime Daycare in Kenmore who offered to make hot food or drinks at their homes and bring it into the powerless daycare for the kids so they could have a hot lunch. Posted by Miss Nicole at 03:34 PM, Dec 18, 2006 What a wonderful story from Barb and Adam whose neighbors shared power from a generator allowing them to run their furnace! This shows how kind and caring good neighbors can be. But I've got a story that unfortunately tells a different tale. My wife, two year old daughter and I live in Seward Park where neighbors on both sides of us enjoyed warm, toasty, lighted homes, whilst we sat in the cold and darkness hoping that the outage wouldn't last nearly as long as it did. Not once did either neighbor check on us, knock on the door, call or even offer us a warm beverage. I guess the only thing worse than trying to sleep in a dark, cold house, is trying to do so amidst the loud moaning of your neighbors' generators. Posted by Phillip789681 at 04:18 PM, Dec 18, 2006 I don't know the names of these folk, but the guys who go around the area in the PSE trucks, non stop through the day and night, fixing these dangerous wires and poles with trees and branches dangerously balanced around them have my respect and admiration. Thank you all for the work you did, do and will continue to do! Posted by Andrea at 04:21 PM, Dec 18, 2006 Some friends from our church (I think they'd prefer anonymity) invited us to stay Friday and Saturday night at their house in Bothell (which had power restored). My wife and I were so grateful to God and them. We were thrilled to have light and heat and to be shown mercy. Posted by Psalm and Bekah Terry at 04:38 PM, Dec 18, 2006 We had an 150 ft. tree fall on our home and cause major damage. Our neighbors, Jeff, Hans and Suzanne, Keith, Ron, John, Dave and my Dad all assisted us for hours and days with getting the tree off our home, tarping our roof and cleaning up our war torn yard. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such compassionate loving people. Thank you isn't enough! Posted by Rob and Heather Nichols at 04:50 PM, Dec 18, 2006 A big thanks to Chad with C's Trees who acquired a crane at 8 o'clock at night to remove a 150 foot tree off of our home. We would be in dire straigts without your help! Posted by Rob and Heather Nichols at 04:53 PM, Dec 18, 2006 I would like to thank Melody and Holly Englehart who went out of their way to check on my elderly father. I live in Juneau and was frantic trying to figure out if he was ok. These two women took time out on a daily basis while dealing with their own power outage problems. I cannot express enough thanks for their genoursity. Posted by Chris Ullrich at 05:42 PM, Dec 18, 2006 |
