WaMu TheaterComments: 3 Seattle Times rock critic Patrick MacDonald's reviews of two concerts last weekend at the new WaMu Theater at the Qwest Field Event Center garnered a lot of response, positive and negative. What did you think of the venue? (Seal review | Van Morrison review) Selected comments My husband and I are huge Van Morrsion fans. So when I heard he was coming to town. I immediatley bought the best seats available, which were not cheap. We lined up our sitter and off we drove for an intimate evening with Van. Opps, not so much, the seats were not great, not even good (for that much $) We could barely see him. I had to keep moving my head side to side and it wasn't to keep tempo with the music. Terrible set up. Big disappointment. It was very short as well. And what's with the red timer in the left corner? A tad tacky. Probably will not see anything at the WaMu again, We drove back home for an intimate evening with our children. Posted by D. White at 11:19 AM, Nov 12, 2006 I had an identical problem in Oakland with my $140+ tickets. I should have remembered Van likes it from the right side but didn't do you much good either, did it? At least they had large screens and Van blew the Stones off the stage :) Posted by Eileen M. Sullivan at 03:17 PM, Nov 13, 2006 I am a huge Van Morrison fan and have waited for years to see him in concert, having passed up the opportunity during his Moondance days in Marin County long ago. I traveled from Corvallis, Oregon to see the show. Not being familiar with the place, we didn't realize that we would have to leave the indoor parking structure and go outside to get in. Fortunately, the massive storm waited until Monday. Our seating in the WAMU Theatre was very disappointing--on the far right side with a solid view of the back side of the acoustical piano. I couldn't see one of the guitarists until I left my seat to stand at an entrance. Seats such as these should be considered "obstructed view" and sold at at lower price--or for goodness sake, provide some large video screens! I sure wanted the concert to last longer, but at least I was in my seat when it began. All that said, if anyone has a playlist of the songs, I would really appreciate getting it!
