RealNetworks cutting 7.5 percent of workers, 39 layoffs in Seattle

Posted by Brier Dudley

RealNetworks disclosed today that it's cutting 130 jobs across its locations in Seattle, San Francisco and New York.

Spokesman Bill Hankes said the cuts include 39 in Seattle. He's got more details on his corporate blog. An excerpt:

The people who are losing their jobs will have time to transition their work through the end of the year. No one is being shown the door today.
From Real's SEC filing:
The company eliminated the foregoing positions to reduce operating costs in light of slowing consumer and business spending due to the current economic downturn. Notwithstanding the reduction in force, the company expects to achieve record revenue for full year 2008.
