Nintendo putting jukebox Wiis into hotel rooms
Posted by Brier Dudley
Nintendo today announced a pilot program with Marriott to install specially modified Wii consoles into six hotels.
The systems come with access to a library of games, which you select with a remote instead of inserting game discs. I wish they'd offer something similar for home users.
Marriott is testing the system at six hotels, where you can book a Wii guest room that comes with unlimited game play during your visit, but costs a little more than a regular room.
The first hotels in the program are the New York Marriott Marquis, Renaissance New York Hotel Times Square, Boston Marriott Cambridge, Bethesda (Md.) Marriott Suites, Annapolis (Md.) Marriott Waterfront and the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix.
At the Phoenix hotel, the Wii system is only in the lounge. I wonder if that's where Nintendo execs will stay during Mariners spring training?
The bigger questions, though, are if and when Nintendo will extend this Wii server system to all the hotels now using Game Cube-based systems.
