Wall Street schmallstreet, full speed ahead for Microsoft

Posted by Brier Dudley

Today's column on Microsoft's growth and investments touches on differences between the Northwest and Northeast perspectives on the company's direction.

Investors may be frosty, but they can at least be happy that Steve Ballmer's being candid about his company's health, unlike the tortured messaging from that other Steve.

From the column on Microsoft's spending:

While everyone's cutting back, Microsoft keeps the spigot open, especially in its fight with Google over the rapidly evolving world of ad-supported online software and services.

A footnote: I mentioned in passing that enthusiasm for the potential of online ad businesses may cool with the economy. For more on that subject, check out this AdAge story.

Gadgets and games | Fun stuff I've written about lately includes Apple's iPhone, Hewlett-Packard's HDX laptop and Microsoft's Halo3. Also on the radar are new digital video boxes such as the Tivo HD and the Vudu.
