Free money: State tech research grants available, up to $300k

Posted by Brier Dudley

Looking for low-cost funding for new tech ventures? The state's going to divvy up $1 million this fall to encourage companies to research and develop new products.

The Washington Technology Center is announcing its next round of research grants for "collaborative research teams working on innovative technology projects with near-term commercial viability." Notices of intent are due by Sept. 18 and final proposals are due Oct. 23.

Any company developing new technology can apply but preference is given to those with 250 and fewer employees. Grants are available to cover up to 80 percent of the cost of reseach projects - up to $100,000 for initial proof-of-concept projets and $300,000 for multi-phase project.

Check the center's site for more info on the grants.
