More on digital healthcare, electronic health records

I didn't realize how timely Monday's column on the future of digitized healthcare would be -- apparently it's electronic health record week in Seattle.
On Thursday, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt will be in town recognizing the work Puget Sound Health Alliance has done to advance healthcare IT practices.
Leavitt will also be encouraging Seattle and other communities to participate in a pilot project offering incentives (higher Medicare payments to doctors ...) to communities that participate in an electronic health records demonstration project. Up to 1,200 small and mid-size primary care physician practices across the country may participate, with the goal of reducing errors and improving "health outcomes for an estimated 3.6 million Americans,'' according to a news release about his visit.
