Awards: UW's Allstot lauded by semi group, Asian American engineers tapped

Posted by Brier Dudley

I'm catching up on recent awards to local engineering luminaries:

Professor David Allstot, chairman of the electrical engineering department at the University of Washington, received the University Research Award from the Seminconductor Industry Association.

Allstot was one of two recipients of the award given March 13 for outstanding research contributions. The other went to Professor Mark Kushner of Iowa State University.

The SIA announced the awards today.

Earlier, several locals won the Asian American Engineer of the Year awards from the Chinese Institute of Engineers. Receiving the award, at a March 1 event in Dallas, were:

-- Soma Somasegar, senior vice president of Microsoft's developer division (I found out about the awards after reading about his honor in an Indian newspaper ...)

-- Hong-Jiang Zhang, chief technology officer of the Microsoft China research & development group

-- Paul D. Nuyen, vice president, manufacturing, Boeing Commercial Airplanes

-- David R. Shieh, mechanical systems regional functional manager at Boeing Integrated Defense Systems in Anaheim, Calif.

-- Snehal R. Patel, acting technical director of GMR Networking Products, JTRS; Boeing Integrated Defense Systems
