The Tacoma Aroma next week will feature the smells of hot electric motors and WD40, during a student robotics competition at the Tacoma Convention Center.
The March 20-22 event is part of a nationwide program founded by inventor Dean Kamen called FIRST - "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology."
Microsoft's sponsoring the regional event, where school teams build robots from kits and enter them in various competitions. The company is expecting 1,500 students from Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Montana and British Columbia to participate.
Sounds like a great program, but I can't figure out why they'd call it the Seattle regional even though it's happening in Tacoma. T-town just can't get any respect sometimes.

Gadgets and games | Fun stuff I've written about lately includes Apple's iPhone, Hewlett-Packard's HDX laptop and Microsoft's Halo3. Also on the radar are new digital video boxes such as the Tivo HD and the Vudu.
