Want to write for video games?

Posted by Brier Dudley

If you're interested, check out the "Game Writing 101" session Tuesday night at Richard Hugo House on Capitol Hill.

A panel of industry vets will discuss "what video-game writing is and isn't, how they broke into the business, and what chops you need to do the work,'' the announcement said.

Panelists include ...

-- Eric Nylund, a novelist who wrote "Halo: Ghosts of Onyx" and contributed to games such as "Gears of War."

-- John Sutherland, who has written for games such as "Mind Aerobics," "Go" and Microsoft games such as "MechAssault 2," "Asheron's Call," "Shadowrun" and "Mass Effect."

Joshua Ortega, author of the cult novel "Frequencies" and writer of comic books and games, including "Blue Dragon."

The panel will be moderated by Melanie Henry, an editor at Microsoft Game Studios who worked on titles such as "Gears of War" and "Counter-Strike" for the original Xbox.

Admission is $5, or $3 for Hugo House members.

Gadgets and games | Fun stuff I've written about lately includes Apple's iPhone, Hewlett-Packard's HDX laptop and Microsoft's Halo3. Also on the radar are new digital video boxes such as the Tivo HD and the Vudu.
