Confessions of an "Idol" addict
It's corny, it's predictable, it's often ear-piercing, but many of us can't get enough of it. Yup, it's "American Idol." Season 8 of America's most-watched TV show is under way. Check this space for news, video clips and take-no-prisoners critiques. And your commentary is vital too!

"American Idol" news roundup for Monday, April 6
Posted by Bob Payne
Last week's ousted "American Idol" contestant Megan Joy has put to rest a rumor that she and fellow contestant Matt Giraud had become romantically involved.
"Not at all," said the recently divorced single mother. "We're just friends. He has a girlfriend, and I have no interest in dating right now."
It's too bad it's not true because, frankly, this season's a little on the dull side so far (Adam Lambert excepted).
The Los Angeles Times has an exhaustive Q&A with Joy here. It includes her comment: "I love birds and I'm just a big dork. I love making animal noises, and sometimes people think I'm funny, and I just decided to make a couple people laugh. The two people that think I'm funny".
• Sunday night was a great night for Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood. She walked away with Entertainer of the Year honors at the Academy of Country Music awards. Congratulations, Carrie!
• Tuesday night's performance show runs from 8:00-9:01 p.m. (why the extra minute? Just to mess with recorders). Wednesday night's results show begins at 9:00 p.m. and features special guest Kellie Pickler. She will perform her new single, "Best Days of Your Life."
• I got a release today with news about Season 7 finalist Michael Johns. The bluesy singer from Australia (via Buckhead, Ga.), will release his debut album, Hold Back My Heart, on June 23.
The CD's first single "Heart On My Sleeve," co-written by John Shanks (Carlos Santana, Sting, Bon Jovi) hits iTunes on April 14 and radio on April 21. Good luck, Michael!
• Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson are among those who reportedly have recorded performances to be aired during upcoming results shows. The Cyrus appearance will no doubt be tied to the opening of her new "Hannah Montana" movie.
• Apparently you can place bets on the outcome of "American Idol" at British betting sites. (This information is for entertainment purposes only.) Lambert is the current favorite.
