"American Idol" Top 9: Anoop Desai gets mixed reviews

Anoop Desai is up first to sing a song by Usher, "Caught Up":

It's not bad vocally, but he hasn't changed it much from the original version. Not sure this will resonate with voters, especially with the curse of going first.

Randy - "Vocally it was cool, but ... I'm not sure it was the right song for you."
Kara - "You kind of just played it safe. It's like a bunch of frat guys dared you to sing Usher."
Paula - "I love that you went back to your playful side."
Simon - "I thought it was a complete and utter mess. You came over as a wannabe. It actually gave me a headache."
