Confessions of an "Idol" addict
It's corny, it's predictable, it's often ear-piercing, but many of us can't get enough of it. Yup, it's "American Idol." Season 8 of America's most-watched TV show is under way. Check this space for news, video clips and take-no-prisoners critiques. And your commentary is vital too!

"American Idol" trims Alexis Grace
Posted by Becky Bisbee
*********GUEST BLOGGER ALERT ********************
This was cryin' and weepin' week on "American Idol." And, if you are a C&W fan, tonight's show was probably pretty exciting. Brad Paisley debuted his new song, "Then." Later, fellow Grand Ole Opry members Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood performed her current hit "I Told You So" together.
And, that my friends, was the extent of the Grand Ole Opry tribute since none of the contestants is a country singer. (I wonder if the producers considered canning the country theme once they realized who was in the Top 11?)
Before we get to the results, thanks to all who participated in our poll -- 2,164 votes. You overwhelmingly voted -- 43 percent - Michael Sarver off the island. Regular blogger Bob Payne also picked Michael as the most likely to be gone.
Here's the breakdown of the results show as it happened:
Ryan Seacrest introduces the Top 11.
6:10 p.m. Those are hot water balloons they are throwing at each other in the music video, right? They shouldn't let Ryan play with those things.
6:11 p.m. Jasmine Murray and Jorge Nunez get another few minutes of fame as Idol family says goodbye -- again. Alexis Grace, Allison Iraheta and Lil rounds talk about their friendships.
Back to the group on stage, Michael shares that his daughter, 3 1/2-year-old McKenna, wants to know why daddy doesn't want to hang out with her any more. Tears all around. Maybe he won't be sorry to go home.
Megan Joy Corkrey says she is feeling better, even if she is still contagious.
6:16 p.m. Ryan gets down to business. Danny Gokey is first, Quickly, he is through -- the first one into the Top 10. No surprise there even if it was his weakest performance yet. Lil Rounds makes it! She is very, very happy. Anoop 'dog' Desai is Simon Cowell's "from Zero to Hero," and safely in the Top 10. Bam.Bam.Bam.
Allison Iraheta and Michael are next. ... Ryan asks Paula Abdul to pick which one is in the Bottom Three. Simon goads Paula to answer the question as she wonders through the fields of her mind. She predicts Allison is going home. Paula is right! "Oh, my god," says a very shocked Allison. Michael sits down on the safe couch before Ryan beckons him to the Bottom Three chairs. So cruel to let him think he is off the hook. But, for once, it wasn't Anoop jerked around.
6:25 p.m. Brad Paisley is singing. I think it is a love song.
6:33 p.m. Ryan is back and Scott MacIntyre is on the hot seat. Scott is told to back his bags for the Summer Tour. He is safe. Megan is up. She survives another week. Matt Giraud, who took the night according to the judges, is safe. Kris Allen is next. Safe. Alexis Grace and Adam Lambert are up next.
Alexis's "Jolene" got mixed reviews as did Adam's "Ring of Fire," a memorable if not roundly appreciated performance. Randy Jackson's turn to pick the loser of the two. He rambles on and on and eventually gets Alexis' name wrong. Randy is right. So, the bottom three are: Michael, Allison and Alexis.
6:38 p.m. Ryan says he is going to send one of the three back to the safe couch. ... It's Allison. Randy Travis and Carrie Underwood up after the break.
6:43 p.m. Carrie Underwood tribute. She's looking hot in red but I can't figure out what is on her head. What happened to her long hair? Randy Travis is looking old. Duet time: "I told you so." She belts the song out and Randy grins a lot while strumming the guitar. Oh, no, Randy sings. Not sure the age difference works here.
Ryan turns the conversation back to Alexis and Michael. He asks Simon if the judges might use one of their safe votes tonight. Simon says, yes, the judges just might.
6:54 p.m. No, No, Michael is safe and Alexis is about to be sent home, unless the judges come through for her. Simon says Alexis is the one the judges thought about saving. So, Ryan hands her the mic and tells her to take it away; save yourself with a Dolly Parton song -- tall order. She's singing for her survival. ... The judges kinda pay attention to her as she begs to keep her spot on the big stage.
6:56 p.m. Simon says the vote was kinda -- is that like kinda pregnant? -- unanimous and says her performance was good but not good enough. Sorry. She was gracious, thanks Idol for the opportunity and says things happen for a reason. Tribute to Alexis and her journey.
Show over.
The Top 10 -- Summer Tour troupe -- has 7 guys and 3 girls:
-- Matt, Michael, Danny, Anoop, Adam, Scott and Kris.
-- Lil, Allison and Megan.
Seven crooners, a rocker, an R&Ber and a emo drama queen.
Motown next week and no dirty Alexis to wow us all. Real disappointment.
Can't say that I agree with America on this one. The song didn't do much for me but none of the singers is country so my expectations were low, like Bob Payne's "train wreck." She certainly deserved a shot at the summer tour. No one is going to remember Megan or Michael sing months from now.
We had 167 readers say they thought Alexis was going to get booted. Why?
Bisbee out.
