Confessions of an "Idol" addict
It's corny, it's predictable, it's often ear-piercing, but many of us can't get enough of it. Yup, it's "American Idol." Season 8 of America's most-watched TV show is under way. Check this space for news, video clips and take-no-prisoners critiques. And your commentary is vital too!

Continuing the Season 7 Idol marathon on Fox Reality
Posted by Bob Payne
It's fun watching last season all over again this week on the Fox Reality Channel. Tonight at 5 the lineup begins with Top 8 Boys, followed by Top 8 Girls at 6 and then the results show at 7. It's '80s week, so here are a few of the performances you can look forward to:
Guys
• David Cook sings his rock-ified version of Lionel Richie's "Hello." This performance elevates Cook to co-front-runner status with David Archuleta.
• Jason Castro single-handedly causes a revival in the music of both Jeff Buckley and Leonard Cohen with his impassioned performance of "Hallelujah."
• On the downside, this is the show in which Luke Menard massacres Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," prompting his elimination on the results show.
Gals
• Carly Smithson delivers a rousing version of Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night," a song she reprised for the American Idols live tour.
• Asia'h Epperson takes on "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" by Whitney Houston. As anyone who follows Idol knows, Houston is one of those artists you're better off avoiding because she's so amazing. So naturally, Epperson is eliminated in the results show.
