I recently heard from a guy named Matt Arnold, who moved to Seattle several months ago for a temporary stay and as quick as you can say, "I'll have a pint of Manny's and a mini crab cake," put together a Web site for budget-conscious eaters-and-drinkers. Matt sent me a link to his site and wondered what I thought of it. Well, frankly, I thought, "I should share this email -- and his site -- with my bleaders." Matt said, twist my arm!
By way of introduction, he explained:
"I like to peruse through the local blogs to find out about the best spots. I saw one of your recent articles on how to stretch your food dollar in tight financial times and wanted to tell you about a website I made for Seattle restaurants. It's called EatDrinkDeals, and the website focuses on helping visitors find good deals at area restaurants, bars, nightclubs, whatever.
"My dad created the site almost a year ago for the Raleigh-Durham, NC area, but during my travels I've tried to put together lists of restaurants with great deals for diners on a budget, and recently uploaded my list for Seattle to the website. Currently, I've only got a little over a hundred listings of places with happy hours, early dinner specials, and the like, but the website is geared towards allowing visitors to submit information on deals at their favorite places and help it grow into a comprehensive list. The website is brand new for the Seattle area, and I'm trying to get the word out. I think it can be a great help to people who enjoy eating out, but have had to tighten their belts recently during the recent economic downturn."
Of course, Matt is far from the only one looking to expand our cheap eat horizons via a list that's heavy on the happy hours. Back in 2004, my friend and Seattle Times colleague Jack Broom wrote a fun profile of happy-hour hauntster Karen Rogers, whose site seattletravel.com is still going strong.
So, tell me: Which Web sites do you turn to when you're looking for big-bargain eats and drinks?
